Programme:

Most of the business units deploy ERP system to address their planning, accounting and other business requirements.ERP systems also vary extensively in size and complexity. Big ERP systems like Oracle Applications or SAP require a team of professionals for a total comprehension.

Companies rely on the ERP systems extensively and think that these are built on mistake-proof process / technology. When breaches and lapses occur, reality strikes them hard. To prevent such happenings periodical systems audit is very important.   The task of the systems auditor gets complex especially when multiple ERPs are deployed along custom-built solutions and crisscross interfaces. There is high expectation of the managements along with potent lawsuits.   This means that the systems audit will have to be probing, thorough and methodical.

Are the systems auditors able to live up to the expectation? Or do they fall a prey to the many pitfalls and challenges that lay in their path?

We will examine some of the Pitfalls and Challenges faced during the systems audit.

v  Lack of understanding of the business environments and the system environments.

v  Not understanding the system process flows.

v  Examining the current records but losing sight of the history.

v  “Ever-Editable fields in the ERP.

v  Back-door controls and Changes

v  “Anonymous changes despite a sound change control process.

Total Control at the Applications Level but No Control at Database Level
